A little about me
I am a Capel Manor trained garden designer based in North London. I enjoy working closely with clients to understand how they would like to improve and use their outdoor space and take them on a journey to unlock the potential of their gardens. All gardens, whatever their size, can be life enhancing, a space to relax, entertain, play, recharge, and feel connected to nature. I create gardens that provide year round interest, attract wildlife, and improve with age, giving pleasure for many years.
Karen was presented with a particularly challenging project. My back garden had no access other than through the house, contained a large amount of rubbish and the southwest border was lined with leylandii. Despite this, Karen could see the potential of the site. She listened to what I wanted; a cottage garden, a greenhouse and a seating area. The site was not at all level and she worked with the landscaper so that this height difference could be integrated into the design. The result was an extremely creative plan to reflect my brief and a beautiful snaking path leading to the garden. We agreed on a budget which informed the materials to be used and made some collaborative adjustments along the way which Karen approached with professionalism. I had a beautiful, well planted garden ready for June and was able to have a delightful platinum jubilee party on the lawn. Something I could only have dreamed of before.

Karen Jacobs took on board my tiny backyard from a deep slab of concrete covered with a frayed plastic lawn, surrounded by rotting fences. It was a depressing sight. But Karen took out her notebook and began to dream. She wanted to know what sort of things I would like to do in the space and slowly we came to plan the space together. There were discussions about the colours and shapes I liked, and soon the plan took shape. Karen structured the space so imaginatively that it no longer seemed tiny. The garden has slatted fences, secluded seating areas, raised beds and stylish paving that make it an extension of the kitchen. It is also planted with an array of shapes, textures and colours that change over the seasons and give interest all year round. It is also very easy to maintain. It gives me enormous joy to look at and a peaceful, creative place to sit, work, have a coffee or even have dinner. ​
